DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU THINK:
TEN ILLUSIONS THAT PREVENT US FROM FINDING
TRUE HAPPINESS
Join Wendy Treynor, Ph.D., cancer survivor (2005), scientist of human emotion, thought, and behavior (2004), inspirational speaker, and author, who shares her perspective, as both scientist and human being, on how to transcend emotional pain. At the root of human suffering lies negative emotion and when it comes to alleviating it, the trick is not necessarily to rid ourselves of the circumstances that create the negative emotion, but instead, to rid our body and mind of the negative emotion, itself. Ridding ourselves of negative emotion can be done in three ways, in particular: through (1) mental techniques, (2) body and breath work, and (3) selective everyday group (social context) placement. Drawing on her research and life experience, in this interactive workshop, Dr. Treynor will: (1) share a series of mental techniques she developed (and from which she has personally benefited), and (2) briefly describe simple body and breath work techniques (which participants can learn more about in other Wellness Community courses), which can be used to this end. Lastly, by participating in this workshop, you offer yourself (3).
You asked for them...
Here they are!
TEN ILLUSIONS
(1) I can control others
We can’t control others, only ourselves.
(2) I don’t deserve to be happy
We do deserve to be happy. To be happy is to be
fully alive.
(3) Life is meaningless
Life is meaningful if you perceive meaning. Rather
than search for meaning, create the meaning in your life.
(4) I don’t have a choice
We have a choice. We just don't remember
what our options are.
(This workshop will inspire you to remember.)
(5) There’s no solution
There is a solution, we just don’t know what it is yet.
(This workshop will inspire you to find one.)
(6) I don’t have enough time.
We have enough time to do what we love.
To think we don’t have enough time is to lose it.
To think we have enough time is to have it.
(7) I don’t have enough money.
We have enough money to be happy. Happiness is free.
(8) I’m incapable.
To try is to succeed.
(9) I’m worthless.
You are precious--you have merely forgotten. Now
it's time to remember.
(10) I need someone who loves me to be happy.
You need self-love (the awareness and the experience
of your inherent perfection, beauty) to be happy.
This workshop aspires to supply "seeds" for you to
plant, and cultivate, in your own life, so that you can cherish who you truly are, and feel the joy that is yours, regardless of circumstance.
